DetailsGMM Dormant Moss Mix contains fully developed moss gametophytes, which provide a more efficient way to grow your own supply of specific terrestrial mosses for your nature-inspired terrariums, bonsai projects, or whichever moss hobby you’re studying.
After cleaning the freshly harvested Green Mountain Moss, we dry it out naturally in the sun. Once the moisture evaporates, the moss falls into a deep sleep and goes dormant. It can be stored in this dormant state for an extremely long time and can be awakened by simply rehydrating with water.
Mosses can take between 1 to 3 months to sprout new visible growths, depending on the species.
In our unique mixture of moss gametophytes and spores, we’ve
included a few additives to help your new moss get settled into
its new home and growing environment.
One packet contains enough gametophytes to seed a
12”x12” square area.
Rhodobryum Ontariense is a delicate and beautiful moss that resembles
a tiny flower in bloom. Rose Moss grows in dense, bright green colonies on soil and calcareous rocks like limestone and schist. New growths sprout from the long wiry brown stems, which grow and spread just under the surface of the substrate and send out new shoots from below. -
