Details
Plagiomnium Spp. is a mix of various mosses in the genus depending on availability (ciliare, cuspidatum, affine) Plagiomnium is a beautiful and delicate addition to your terrarium or moss hobby. Plagiomnium mosses have small translucent leaves with tiny spines around the edge, depending on the species.
Plagiomnium can be found in open humus-rich woodland, on semi-shaded stream banks, and on moist, sandy soil. Plagiomnium grows in calcareous zones near maple, oak, and coniferous trees.
Mosses are a type of Bryophyte, which are a non-vascular plant. Unlike other plants, moss has no internal veins transporting water and nutrients from the root system. Instead of roots, mosses soak up water directly through their tiny leaves. Moss grows small hair-like strands underneath called rhyzoids, which look like roots but are used for clinging to surfaces, substrates, and even each other.
Since moss loves moisture, it makes them ideal candidates for terrariums and other humid setups like paludariums, vivariums, ripariums, and even bonsai trees. Experimenting with different setups is always recommended to find what works best for your location and growing environment.
You will receive a 4" x 4" box of fresh live moss, as seen in the pictures, which is enough for a few small or a couple of medium-sized terrariums.
Green Mountain Moss is a newly established moss farm and terrarium supply store in Southwestern Vermont.
All Green Mountain Moss is grown and ethically harvested from its natural environment on our families and friends' land. At GMM, we cultivate and care for many species of amazing and diverse local mosses. All mosses are hand-picked, cleaned, and soaked in fresh mountain water. I do my best to pick out all the pine needles, twigs, and foliage, but some may remain, along with tiny hitchhikers.
Each moss order is personally handpicked, and packed, guaranteed to be delivered as fresh as the day it was harvested.
Moss can withstand freezing temperatures and ships extremely well. Unfortunately, we’re unable to ship live moss internationally at this time.
